New Site!

Posted on Feb 26, 2014

Sooo I decided it was finally time to update to a new site.

I still think the old one was pretty steezy–probably because I made it myself <via several hours in dreamweaver> but it’s a bit antique now.

So out with the old, in with the new WordPress. I’ll probably still be changing it up significantly, but here it is.

Novel Displays Blog

Posted on May 2, 2013

So a lot of it’s kind of boring, but I have to keep a blog for my Immersive Media/Novel Displays class, and since I’m hosting it on a subdomain of jwoodmedia.com anyways, I figured I might as well link to it here. The class is almost done, but maybe someone will still find something interesting and/or useful..

Albuquerque Drift

Posted on Apr 24, 2013

Today Tim over at Automotive Digression and I finished putting together a little video of the start of the Albuquerque drifting season. It’s full of fun, dogs, shenanigans, everything else that is Albuquerque drifting. We tried our best to capture the carefree and fun vibes of the scene:

Summer’s around the corner

Posted on Mar 22, 2013

It’s been warming up in Albuquerque, and as if that weren’t awesome enough, drifting season is also firing up. While I don’t drift, as my Saab’s broken rim in the garage can tell you, I absolutely love the sport. I love filming/photographing it, and I love the people involved. So I’m of course stoked for this upcoming warm weather and corresponding drift competitions, car meets, cruises, drags, and everything in between!
This past week I was out at Napa Speedway shooting some of the first official drift practice of the season. You could tell the guys were a little rusty from many driftless winter months at first, but by the end of the day the drifting was on point. Here’s a little clip from the day :D

Can’t wait for more!

Projection Mapping: Part II

Posted on Mar 17, 2013

So I didn’t get to spend near as much time as I would’ve liked on this project –I ended up creating all the content in a matter of hours due to time constraints from other things I had to attend to as well.. But, I think it turned out pretty well all things considered. The content might seem a little random, and that’s definitely true, but I also wanted to try to create things that messed with your perception when this was actually projected onto the shapes, and that usually resulted in strange looking animations, etc.
I definitely want to continue to work on this [famous last words, I know..] and make it much longer and more 3D heavy. We’ll see. Here’s the final output, and I’ll upload some footage of the actual piece some time here soon.

Update: Here’s some footage of the actual projection. Unfortunately the piece got moved in between the first week when we set it up and this week when I recorded some video of it; I tried to re-line it up again, but it’s not perfect. Either way, looks kinda cool haha

Projection Mapping

Posted on Mar 1, 2013

Normally I don’t post too much about my classes, but this is just too much fun not to. I’m taking an Immersive Media class, in which we create for “novel displays”, so projection mapping pretty much. Anyways, we’re currently underway working on our mid-term project, and a few of the guys and I took it upon ourselves to construct a new medium out of plywood, rather than the typical styrofoam cubes. Turned out that was slightly ambitious, but whatever –lots of work & lots of fun.

We used the School of Architecture’s fabrication lab and CNC router plus Rhino3D to cut out all the pieces. We then just kind of threw it all together and gave it several coats of paint, and brought it into the UNM Arts lab. We just finished mounting it up, mapping it out, and now time to finish up content!

Expect another update soon!

2012, it’s been reel.

Posted on Jan 31, 2013

So I just finished putting together a quick little reel for 2012. I didn’t realize just quite how much stuff happened in 2012 until I started building this reel, so I want to give another big shout out to all the places I was so fortunate to visit and all the awesome people that I met! Here’s to 2013!

Drew & Brenna | JD & Erica | Michael & Kira

Posted on Dec 5, 2012

Sooo I’ve been slacking pretty hard when it comes to blogging, so my apologies. This has been a pretty crazy semester, and I don’t expect it to be getting any better so I’ll try to get used to that, and still keep up to date with my blog..

But anyways, lots has occurred in the time since the last post. First of all, my good friend, and filming/editing/everything partner Drew got married to the love of his life Brenna! Which was/is super awesome! I and fellow photographer Brady Key had the pleasure of filming their amazing wedding day; here’s the result:

Next up, Drew and I shot a pretty cool Fall Albuquerque wedding, with an equally cool couple, JD and Erica! The wedding was pretty traditional, so it was kinda fun to mix it up a bit since a lot of the weddings we do are more on the alternative side.

Last but not least, another beautiful wedding, set right at the foot of the Sandias. Michael and Kira really put together a classic and picturesque wedding, that was a lot of fun for Drew and I to shoot:

Hope you enjoy!
We’ve got a couple more videos coming up; I’ll try to be more timely with these! :)

No Coast Drift Party II Video!

Posted on Sep 27, 2012

Finally finished the video for the 2012 No Coast Drift Party out at Napa Speedway. Man was this whole thing a blast. I met some of the coolest people from all over the mid and southwest. I hope to be doing some more videos like this soon. Only limited by the number events, so hopefully this video can help spread the ghettomagic of Albuquerque drifting!

No Coast Teaser

Posted on Sep 20, 2012

This past weekend was the second annual running of the No Coast Drift Party here in Albuquerque. It’s a bunch of automotive shenanigans, and consequently, a ton of fun. Aside from achieving a massive sunburn, I got a bunch of awesome footage. It was also the maiden voyage for my newest piece of glass, a 70-200mm f2.8, and I’m very pleased with it. Anyways, I just started editing the video today, and I’m liking how it’s looking so far. So here’s a little screenshot teaser for now. Expect the video by next week.

Update: Here’s a short little teaser clip!
